Monsters Under the Bed and Superheroes in the Playroom: An Educational Presentation About Children's Dreams and Fantasy Play

Martha Heineman Pieper, Ph.D, an award-winning author, psychotherapist and co-developer of the revolutionary Smart Love philosophy presents "Monsters Under the Bed and Superheroes in the Playroom: Helpful Responses to Children's Dreams and Fantasy Play."  

Sponsored by Smart Love Family Services, The Intrapsychic Humanism Society and The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, this talk will provide insight for parents, teachers, mental health professionals, and other caregivers into the meaning of children's dreams and fantasy play and will offer helpful ways to react and respond. You’ll acquire information on how to offer informed responses to children's dreams and how that can enhance children's emotional health and strengthen their affectionate ties to the caring adults in their lives. Martha Heineman Pieper, Ph.D is the author of the award-winning children’s book, Mommy, Daddy I Had a Bad Dream! and co-author with her husband of the bestselling parenting book: “Smart Love: The Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Regulating, and Enjoying Your Child” (Harvard Common Press, 2001, reprinted by Smart Love Press, 2011). For ten years the Piepers also wrote a parenting column, “Smart Love,” in Chicago Parent. Dr. Pieper received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Her work is the inspiration for Smart Love Family Services (www.smartlovefamily.org) which provides a broad spectrum of services to children and families, including counseling services, parent education, toddler programs, and a preschool.
