NSSC Day Trip: Follow the Path of the Great Chicago Fire

Departs from NSSC, Northfield Location, 161 Northfield Road:

Tour guide Al Walavich will follow the trail of the Great
Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871. The tour will begin at the small
museum that is part of the Chicago Fire Academy located on the site of the
O’Leary property where the fire started. Next, visit the second oldest church
in Chicago, Holy Family Church where a shrine to Our Lady of Perpetual Help has
been maintained since the fire as a gesture of thanks for being spared the
flames. After a family style lunch at Greek Islands restaurant, Al will take us
on a driving tour of the fire zone, which extends as far north as Fullerton
Avenue with a stop at the Water Tower complex, the most famous buildings that
survived the fire (because of the thick stone walls). He will also point out
houses that survived the fire. Fee includes all tours, professional tour guide,
lunch and transportation. Departs from our Northfield location.

Pre-registration is recommended.  Call NSSC at 847-784-6030 to register.  Web site:  www.nssc.org
