Presenting at EPL: Best Picture Books 2013

Saturday, December 7, 10:30 am, Community Meeting Room, Main Library

Open to All Adults Who Value Reading Aloud to Children

Reading aloud to children is both pleasurable and a proven, simple practice for creating the enthusiastic readers of tomorrow. Join Brian Wilson, EPL Children’s Librarían as he shares his picks for Best Picture Books of 2013. Parents, teachers, child care workers, grandparents and anyone else who values reading aloud to young children at home, in classrooms, child care centers or casual playgroups will enjoy “Mr. Brian’s” lively presentation. Participants will discover a whole new selection of great picture books to enrich reading time, gain ideas for meaningful gift-giving, and take home a bibliography of about 60 suggested titles. (NOTE: This event is for adults only!)

According to Wilson, “participants will discover many highly-recommended read-aloud books that have strong, eye-grabbing illustrations and stories that encourage participation. We’ll also look at the front runner for the Caldecott and Coretta Scott King illustrator awards, excellent non-fiction titles, funny books that can work better for older readers, and more.”

Brian Wilson has reviewed children’s materials for Booklist and School Library Journal. He has served on the committee for the Monarch Award and currently serves on the committee for the Bluestem Award, both of which are awards of the Illinois School Library Media Association. He tries out many new books at his popular Drop-In Preschool Storytime every Wednesday, so his choices are audience approved! Will his number one choice star elusive monkeys or an overly enthusiastic tiger? Only those who show up will find out!
