Community Corner

Spring Community Day at Mitchell Museum of The American Indian

On Saturday, April 26, The Mitchell
Museum of the American Indian will host Community Day from 10am-5pm. Free
activities with paid admission include kid’s crafts, live music, refreshments
and storytelling at the Teaching Lodge. The museum’s volunteers and staff will
be on hand to provide information about volunteering, docenting, flute group,
and other ways community members can be a part of the museum.

 Mitchell Museum volunteers will lead
children and their families in a Dreamcatcher craft from 11am-noon.  The Dreamcatcher is originally an Ojibwe
craft, intended to filter bad dreams, leaving only the good.  The craft will be followed by food and light
refreshments (noon-1pm). Live music by the Native Healing Flute Group, hosted
at the Mitchell Museum, will follow (1-2pm).
Activities finish with a Native American storytelling from 2-2:30pm at
the Mitchell Museum’s Teaching Lodge.

 For more information about Community
Day at the Mitchell Museum, please contact Visitor Services at visitor.services@mitchellmuseum.org, or call 847-475-1030 during our
regular hours.  The museum welcomes
interested docents, interns, or volunteers year round.
