SOAR (Sponsoring Our Adolescents Responsibly) is a mentoring program that began in the fall of 1990. There are students from Northwestern serving as University Mentors, as well as Community Mentors who meet with mentees 2-4 hours a week for 9 months. The goal of the mentoring relationship is to help the mentees gain the skills and confidence to be responsible, emphasizing their academic achievement, emotional and social skill development, as well as personal development. Currently, there are over 80 Evanston boys and girls, age 9-14 that have a variety of needs for positive, dependable role models.
