This is a terrific wisteria that's easy to grow and rock hardy. 'Blue Moon' was developed in Minnesota after a chance seedling was given to a horticulturalist at his wedding. It blooms in its second year, unlike Japanese wisteria (W. floribunda) or Chinese wisteria (W. sinensis), which can take ten years to produce flowers. The pale lavender flowers stand out well on a dark-colored arbor or wall. It's very vigorous and sends out shoots from its base that need clipping. It's a form of W. macrostachya, or Kentucky wisteria. 'Aunt Dee' is similar. Try it on a strong fence or arbor or lattice.
