Edible Acre Project at ETHS Nearing 4th Anniversary

What started as a gardening vision has become a firm reality at the 'Edible Acre' plot across from Evanston Township High School. Begun in October 2009 as a joint venture between The Talking Farm and the school, the plot (actually only
1/8 acre) now produces 2000 lbs of vegetables a year.

Pictured in the photo is Matt Ryan, Asst Farm Manager for TTF, and four of the
five teenagers that were in this part of Evanston's Summer Youth Employment program. They were paid to work three hours a day, five days a week for eight weeks during the summer.  Below them in the picture is a flourishing lettuce bed.

Linda Kruhmin, TTF Farm Manager, was the primary creator of the project and
helped design the area. Much of the produce is sold at the Downtown Farmers' Market. The plot was originally a spot where students hung out for smoking.
Three of the current 4 x 12 individual beds are used by people in the nearby community in a sharing process.
