Friends of Farmers Mkts Harvest Party Benefit

A harvest celebration Thursday evening Sept 26 at Now We're Cookin' in Evanston benefitted all the non-profit activities of Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets.

Top chefs from Bistro Bordeaux, FarmHouse Restaurant, Found, North Pond, Quince, Chef's Station, Koi, NU/Sodexo, and others were there. They created a stunning array of single dishes at their tables, each on a small square white plate. Outside on the street the Hummingbird gourmet food truck was part of the scene.

About 100 attendees had paid seventy or eighty dollars to support The Friends'
activities, such as helping to promote the Winter Market, which will start up again in December, teaching children about food and its sources, and sponsoring cooking demos at the Evanston market.

Some of the farmers and producers for the evening's food were M&D Farms, Henry's Farm, Green Acres, Kinnikinnick Farm, Heartland Meats, and Geneva Lakes Produce. The idea was to promote local growers.

Among the delicious fare were seared sand dabs right out of the frying pan and potato pierogi filled with cabbage and gruyere cheese.  The event lasted from 6 until 8:30 on a lovely Evanston evening.
