Las Posadas Ceremony at Lake Street Church

LAS POSADAS A MODO LE LAKE STREET - December 11, 10:30 am Lake Street Church of Evanston   On December 11 at 10:30 am, Lake Street Church will offer “Las Posadas a Modo de Lake Street” as our annual All Ages Advent Worship service, an interpretation of the beloved Latin American Christmas tradition, in which Mary and Joseph seek shelter on their journey. The service will be led by the Middle School and High School Youth groups, and will feature the traditional “Posada” song, a short play, a Spanish carol sung by the men’s choir, sacred readings, an affirmation of our connection to the Nicaraguan children sponsored through our Co-operative Ministries program, and a “magic penny” offering that will be contributed the LSC Ninos Project, an upcoming service trip to Nicaragua.  Following the service, a traditional lunch of rice, chicken and beans prepared in Nicaraguan style will  be offered to raise funds for the service trip to Nicaragua. Las Posadas is a traditional ceremony with origins in Spain that has been celebrated for centuries during the Christmas season throughout Mexico and much of Latin America.  Please join us to experience this cultural event.  As with all Lake Street services, all are welcome.  Lake Street Church is located at 607 Lake Street, Evanston, Illinois, in the oldest public building in Evanston.  More than 150 years old, Lake Street Church is a progressive spiritual community in the protestant tradition but with a strong interfaith emphasis.  More information about LSC can be found at lakestreet.org.
