Evanston Man Raising Funds for Rescue Dog's Cancer Surgery

Sadie, a rescue dog, needed to have a toe amputated to remove a cancerous growth. Her owner is trying to raise $900 to help pay for her surgery.

Although he's only owned his rescue dog, Sadie, for one year, David Laurino says she has already "changed my life."

Laurino, an Evanston resident, is raising funds to help pay for Sadie's cancer surgery on Dec. 4. Sadie had to have a toe amputated in order to remove a cancerous growth, according to Laurino's fundraising page on Go Fund Me

Laurino adopted Sadie after her previous owner passed away suddenly in September 2012. She was originally rescued from southern Illinois, where she was chained for the first year of her life, according to Laurino's fundraising page. Her chain had to be surgically removed from her neck.

Laurino has already raised $260 toward his goal of $900 for Sadie's surgery.

"I am, like so many others, struggling financially at this time," he wrote on his fundraising page. "Any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to have this girl in my life for many years to come."
