The following is from the Illinois Lottery:

“I plan to share this prize with my parents. They have always taken care of me so I want to take care of them,” Petros Marinakos said after winning $300,000 playing Lucky Day Lotto.  The Lincolnwood resident was happy to discover that the numbers on his Quick Pick ticket – 08 - 15 - 28 - 38 - 39 – were an exact match in the April 8Lucky Day Lotto evening drawing.

After buying his ticket, Marinakos gave it to his father and asked him to check it after the Lucky Day Lotto drawing. “I had to go to work so I jokingly asked my dad to take care of my ‘winning’ ticket.”  Marinakos’ father went back to the gas station where the ticket was purchased and scanned it. Once he confirmed it was a big winner, he rushed home to tell his wife and call his son.  “When my dad told me I won, I couldn’t believe it!  I was joking when I called it a winning ticket. I never believed it would be!” Marinakos said.

While his parents are originally from Greece, Marinakos, 36, was born and raised in Chicago.  When asked how he plans to share the windfall with his parents he said, “Today it’s all about them. I’d like to buy them a new car, but I’ll do whatever they prefer.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Lincoln Mobil, 6777 North Lincoln Avenue in Lincolnwood.  The retailer will receive a $3,000 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

Jackpots for Lucky Day Lotto start at $100,000. Drawings are now twice a day, seven days a week with over 40,000 winners every day. That’s over 250,000 winners in Illinois every week!  For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.

I"am glad this young man will share his winning ticket with his parents, I would do the same but instead of buying a car I would pay off the house so my mother wouldn't have to be worried every month. God bless you and your family.

Great of you to share with your parents! Just don't pay sticker for the car.
