Staying Safe this Winter

Tips to staying warm this Winter

People often don't realize how dangerous Winter and the frigid cold can be to your health. As such, I have put together these five tips below to ensure you make this a fun and safe Winter.

Tip #1 - When the temperature dips below 30 degrees, layer up. This includes wearing long johns, very warm socks, wearing a hat, scarf and gloves, along with a very warm coat. I would recommend a North Face coat, since they have been engineered to handle extremely cold weather conditions.

Tip #2 - Cover your face. This is one part of the body that people often forget about covering up when they head out and face the cold weather. I find that by wrapping a scarf around your face, it prevents you from breathing in very cold air, which has been known to cause lung damage and even make your esophagus freeze. Pretty gruesome, I know.

Tip #3 - Be active. The more active you are, the more your blood will circulate and keep your body feeling warm. This means that you should get off the couch and do something where you are moving around.

Tip #4 - Eat food and drink lots of liquids. Oatmeal is one of my favorite things to have in the Winter and if you add hot chocolate with that, I am in heaven. By eating food and drinking liquids, your body is processing material, which causes your body to heat up.
