Is Justice Just Ice?

Last Tuesday, PBS aired The Untouchables.  It is very well done, and rivetting.

Everyone should see it.  As we all know, no banking execs have ever been prosecuted for what transpired in 2008...or for what is actually still playing out as we stare into an endless abyss of monetary debasement, high unemployment, too-big-to fails getting even bigger, and an ever-widening gap in income levels between Wall Street insiders and a growing impoverished class.

If you were like me, you thought Obama would have stepped in by now.  We thought he was a "man of the people."  His justice department would certainly be interested in making things right.  But the mortgage bubble that cost Americans hundereds of billions of dollars cost the banks only several billion, and not one banking executive was prosecuted.

I know, same old story...the rich get richer...and meet the new boss, same as the old boss.  Ho hum...

Only now, things are unravelling.  People, especially bright young folks, no longer even bother listening to the mainstream media, because they know the government relies on the MSM to keep us in the dark.  These rating numbers are starting to cause real concerns among the moneyed elite, and I think they're getting desparate.

Yes, US Attorney Carmen Ortiz succeeded in offing the folk hero and internet freedom fighter Aaron Swartz who stopped SOPA and SISPA, heartlessly driving this brilliant 26 year old activist to despair by throwing around threats...like 35 years in prison for downloading academic articles, so everyone could have free access to them.  (There is currently a wildly popular White House website petition to fire Carmen Ortiz, the US Attorney who headed up this witch hunt...along with her two henchmen.  Sign it, and any others you find interesting!)

But the fact is, a documentary that will alarm many, many Americans about the legitimacy of their government has showed up on Frontline.  No one could come away from watching it without getting, for once and for all, that something is rotten in the state of America.  I mean stinking, putrid rotten.

I was heartened to learn more about the guys like Senator Ted Kaufman, who investigated and pursued justice like true American heroes.  But eventually, they were left wondering what in the hell is going on when the likes of Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs and Robert Rubin spoke utter lies and obfuscation to Congress, and the Department of Justice sat idly by.

Just think about how the Department of Justice Criminal Division Chief, Lanny Breuer, refused to touch these untouchable, richer-than-God bankers following the financial fiasco that cost so many people their homes, jobs and future. Then think about the money and energy US Attorney Carmen Ortiz engaged to bring down a real man of the people, Aaron Swartz.

Ponder this, just for a moment.  How does it make you feel?

The Justice Department's Lanny Breuer is said to be stepping down, since the day after The Untouchables aired. That's a start.

But who's next?  Dare they get a real human being to take his place?  Is Breuer just going to be the one to take the fall, so the big banker boys don't have to?  What about Eric Holder?  And...the President?  What next?  Does Obama fear Kennedy's fate, were he, like JFK, RFK, and MLK to stand up to the banking/industrial/complex cartel?  Or was he resigned to his role as gate-keeper for the elite long ago?  Time will tell.

I pulled up behind a Cadillac
We were waiting for the light
And I took a look at his license plate
It said "Just Ice"
Is justice just ice?
Governed by greed and lust?
Just the strong doing what they can
And the weak suffering what they must?
