Television’s favorite starlets and funny men will heat up the red carpet Sunday September 23 for this year’s 64th Primetime Emmy Awards. One celebrity secret these talented ladies and gents will have in common: they are wearing shape wear under their glittering gowns and finely pressed suits. Yes, I said, ladies and gents.
Celebrity or not, everyone can benefit in wearing body-shaping solutions to compliment an outfit. There are a variety of brands, product categories and styles available to many budgets pending your need. Shape wear can simply polish off your look by smoothing out body trouble spots or creating a pleasing silhouette under dresses, gowns, shirts and pants. The goal of the garment can range from taming the tummy, shaping your back-side and creating a sleek leg line. The popularity of shape wear has brought expanded product lines to your favorite retailers including apparel, active wear, swim wear and maternity clothing.
Below are some of some of my favorite brands that I wear and also suggest to my clients:
Spanx by Sara Blakely
This ever popular shape wear brand made famous in 2000 by Oprah Winfrey started with body shapers and legwear and has expanded to bras, panties apparel, active wear and swimsuits. Styles come in a variety of fabrications and shaping “strengths”. I always recommend the body shapers for special occasion dressing. Price points can range around $30 - $90 but think of this as an investment in your style! Products can be found at a variety of department stores including Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdales at Westfield Old Orchard and boutiques Asinamali and Hot Mama in downtown Evanston.
Assets by Sara Blakely
Spanx founder Sara Blakely created Assets, moderately priced line of body shaping solutions that can be found at Target and Ann Taylor Loft. Body shapers, bras, panties, leg wear and maternity round out this line. Assets are great to have in your wardrobe to complete your work and play outfits. Prices range from $20 – $40.
Additionally, a new line of Assets, Red Hot Label has launched with the same value and shape wear technology with fashion flair like lace details and embellishments. Styles can currently be found at Kohls.
Spanx for Men
Guys, are you sporting a slight beer gut after too much summer fun? You can fake a slimmer middle with Spanx for Men. The range includes cotton compression undershirts and briefs that come in medium and high power shaping technology that will aid in smoothing out your torso and back side. Locally, styles can be found at Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, price points range from $25 - $75.
Yummie By Heather Johnson
Created by a Mom who wanted to feel yummie in her clothes, this line of shape wear is known for its light weight, soft and smooth fabrications and comfort. The slips and camisoles are great investment pieces to have in the wardrobe for everyday wear. Yet, another recommendation I often make to my clients. Bloomingdales and Nordstrom carry a variety of styles and cost anywhere from $38 - $68.
There are many shape wear solutions out there, what’s your favorite brand?
