Sorry, kids. It was a full school day today and so far there has been no word of after-school events being closed.

Roads are still rough. Some Patch readers reported on Twitter that they hadn't seen many plows, and some main roads were a bit slippery in the early afternoon. Drive slowly and don't forget to keep your lights on.

The CTA Purple line is running as usual. The Skokie Swift Yellow line will be suspended on Saturday Jan. 21 and Sunday Jan. 22.

Check back for more updates throughout the evening.

A winter storm is finally headed our way!

Evanston may get anywhere between 4-6 inches of snow Friday, according to the National Weather Service. It's no Snowmageddon, but it may be enough to cause some troubles on the roads.

Snow is expected to start falling around midnight, and morning rush hour will be frigid. Weather.com says it should be around 10 degrees in the morning but it will feel like 3.

Residents, landlords, and businesses are expected to shovel the sidewalks outside of their property in the event of snowfall. The city of Evanston says sidewalks outside of businesses should be completely cleared, and "snow should be removed a minimum of 36” away from the building to avoid citation."

Anybody who is available to volunteer to shovel for the elderly or disabled can volunteer by calling 3-1-1.

Stay tuned to Patch all day for snow updates, including school closings and other urgent issues.
