Calling All Moms!

When my daughter was born, I found that one of the hardest parts of motherhood was that abrupt shift from being warmly honored, thought of, and celebrated as a pregnant woman to being a new mother, someone who everyone expected to silently sacrifice and carry on.  In the weeks after my daughter as born, I found myself feeling increasingly isolated, left alone.  There was stunningly little in the way of community, a community where other mothers could be themselves, relax, and commiserate with others on subjects that the outside world cared little about like, but were so very important to us:  How is my baby sleeping?  How are they eating?  Why won’t they stop crying?

Having a place to be and a group to belong to in those isolating days was important for my sanity.  I found and created my own network of other new moms, but not without a lot of had work and time.

Yet, I understand that I was also fortunate.  New moms are asked to be the same person they were before the baby -- to work, to manage the house, to be a wonderful and fulfilling partner -- all the while taking care and raising a whole new human being.  Mothers, of all people, need and deserve all the support they can get.

So that's why I founded Mama Power TeesMama Power Tees are fun feminine, graphic tees that are meant to celebrate and unite mamas in mommyhood.  We've recently launched a Kickastarter Campaign in order to raise enough funds to make our first mass print of t-shirts and develop one new design.  Kickstarter, in case you didn’t know, is a way to crowd-source funding for projects.  As of this post, the project is 36% funded and set to expire on December 17th.  If we don't meet the goal by that date, then the project will not be funded and set back to the prototype phase.

Like raising a child this project will need a village to be successful.  If you are a mama or a supporter of all that mamas do, please take a look at the campaign and consider contributing and/or spreading the word.

In support of the campaign, I'll be hosting mom-and-baby meetups over the next few weeks at local businesses -- like Kazoom Recycled Essentials for Kids in Evanston at 1940 Dempster -- to drive awareness of my campaign and to celebrate mothers.

Please help me make this project possible!  Mom deserve to be celebrated and connected.  Take a moment out of your day to take a look and consider participating.

Mama Power!
