Obituary: Everett Douglas Bryson, 87, Electrician and Crossing Guard

Bryson lived in Evanston from 1930 until his death, and graduated from Foster Elementary School and Evanston Township High School.

BIOGRAPHY

Everett Douglas Bryson, known by some as Tom, was born March 14, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the youngest of five children born to the union of the late Reverend Prentis Alexander Bryson and Katie Mae Bryson. He departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2013.

The family moved to Evanston in August, 1930. Everett was educated in the Evanston School System, graduating from Foster Elementary and Evanston Township High School. He was very active in sports; football and basketball. He played with the Rams.

Everett accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of New Hope C.M.E. Church. He was inducted in the U.S. Armed Forces on June 23, 1944 and served faithfully until his honorable discharge on July 30, 1946.

Everett was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Mims on July 10, 1948. To this union they were blessed with a son, Everett Douglas Bryson, Jr.

For many years he worked as an electrician, employed by Young Electric Co., Broadmont Electric Co., and Maron Electric Co. He retired in 1991. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local Union #134. Everett used his electrical talent by serving his community.

In 1995, he decided to come out of retirement and work for the City of Evanston as a Crossing Guard until his health began to decline.

Everett’s cheerful personality made him liked by all who came in contact with him and he was a devoted husband, caring father and friend. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Bryson; one son, Everett Douglas (Earlene) Bryson of Canyon Country, California; two grandchildren, Everett Earl (Christina) Bryson of Santa Clarita, California, and Regina Dean of College Park, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Tameka Dean of College Park, Georgia, Everett Jadyn Bryson and Earl Jaryn Bryson of Santa Clarita, California; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Mims of Evanston, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Everett is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Prentis, Charles, James and David.

The Bryson Family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation
the many comforting expressions of sympathy, prayers, cards,
visits and every act of kindness shown them.
