Obituary: Navy Vet Joseph H. Binder, 85

Joe Binder was born in Evanston in 1928 and lived in Glenview for more than 40 years. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Pam, and three children.

Joseph H. Binder (Joe) , age 85, passed away on December 30, 2013 at his beloved Lake Geneva, was married 61 years to loving wife Pam.  Born August 28, 1928  in Evanston, IL.  Joe and Pam lived over 40 years in Glenview, Illinois where they raised their 3 children.

Presently of Nokomis, FL and Williams Bay, WI., Joe was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1946 before enlisting in the US Navy. Joe graduated from Bradley University and married Pam in 1952, then successfully worked in sales for ten years at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., then briefly Klein Tools before joining, and eventually owning Schweizer Emblem Co., Park Ridge, IL. 

Joe was very active in the community, plus had many hobbies as PADI Master scuba diver, boating enthusiast, car aficionado, gardener, dog lover, and world traveler. Most importantly, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and loyal friend. Preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors in addition to wife Pamela (Dierl) include loving children Nancy Madsen of Brookfield, WI, Susie Gray (Barry) of Deerfield, IL, and Paul Binder, of Glenview, IL., Brother Herb Binder (Liz) of Las Vegas, NV, Sister-in-law Donna Thrasher (Lee) of Oak Park, IL and five adored grandchildren; Emily Madsen Simpson (Billy), Joe Madsen, Chris Madsen, Jeffrey Gray all of Milwaukee, WI and Allie Gray Freeland (Ryan) of Minneapolis, MN., plus many loving Binder and Taylor family nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance and “Celebration of Life” will be held at Glenview Community Church (1000 Elm St.) at 10am on Saturday, January 11. In lieu of flowers, suggesting memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.
