Obituary: Patrick J. Callahan, 97

Pat Callahan died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Mather Pavilion in Evanston, Illinois; and the kindness and assistance that was provided by the staff at that facility and at NorthShore Evanston Hospital will forever be remembered. 

Pat Callahan was born in New York City on August 26, 1915 the first child of his parents, Margaret Long and John Edward Callahan, and grew up in Manhattan with his brothers John, Daniel, and Edward. Prior to moving to Chicago in 1950, he was surrounded by an extended family throughout the New York region. 

Pat Callahan attended Holy Name School, De LaSalle High School, and Manhattan College in New York City. He married Catherine (Kay) Theresa Kenneally in 1940 and they had nine children. During World War II he served in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1946. Pat was affiliated with Pyramid Mouldings Company both in New York and then in Chicago, from which he retired after forty-five years with the company. 

Throughout his life he shared his many talents by helping friends and their families in numerous ways and by active participation in many service organizations such as: Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church and School, Meals on Wheels, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Saint Vincent DePaul Society, and the North Shore Senior Center. 

Pat Callahan is survived by his brother Edward (Theresa) Callahan of Laguna Woods, California; his daughters Mary (Michael) Harrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Catherine (Darlene Bieling) Callahan of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Eileen Callahan of Sausalito, California; his sons John (Gayle) Callahan of Northfield, Illinois, Patrick (Patricia) Callahan, Jr. of Winnetka, Illinois, Daniel Callahan of Wilmette, Illinois, Timothy (Denise) Callahan of Richmond, Virginia, Thomas (Heather) Callahan of Boulder, Colorado, and Steven (Susan) Callahan of Lake Zurich, Illinois; his granddaughters Mary (Philip) Erdoes of New York, New York, Shannon (Kevin) Coyman of Orlando, Florida, Erin and Ann Marie Callahan of Richmond, Virginia, Kristen Harrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Lisa Callahan of Lake Zurich, Illinois; his grandsons Patrick Callahan of Newport Beach, California, Michael (Brittan) Callahan of Winnetka, Illinois, Christopher (Shields) Callahan of New York, New York, Daniel (Erika) Callahan of Chicago, Illinois, Jack Callahan of Wilmette, Illinois, Michael Callahan of Houston, Texas, Sean and James Callahan of Richmond, Virginia, Stephen (Meritt) Harrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Kevin (Jennifer) Harrison of Parker, Colorado, Thomas, Connor and Keane Callahan of Boulder, Colorado, and Kevin and Ryan Callahan of Lake Zurich, Illinois; his great granddaughters Mia, Morgan, and Mason Erdoes of New York, New York, Coco, Poppy, and Havana Callahan of Winnetka, Illinois, Sydney and Riley Callahan of Chicago, Illinois, Kenneally and Harper Coyman of Orlando, Florida, and Scarlett Harrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas; his great grandsons Kieran Callahan of Houston, Texas, Callahan Harrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Whilden Callahan of New York, New York, and Ryan Harrison of Parker, Colorado; and his many nieces and nephews. 

He has joined in death his wife Catherine (Kay) Callahan, his brother, John (the late Helen) Callahan, his brother Daniel (the late Grace) Callahan, and his granddaughter Mackenzie Callahan.
