Obituary: William Pool, Jr., 93, Served in Navy As Gunners Mate

Pool passed away Sept. 22, 2013. He graduated from ETHS, attended Northwestern University and served in the U.S. Navy for four years.

William Cloyd Pool Jr., 93, of Evanston Illinois, passed away September 22, 2013. Bill was a lifetime resident of Wilmette and Evanston. He graduated from Evanston Township High School then attended Northwestern University and the University of Illinois in Champaign before joining the US Navy for 4 years, 3 of which were on the destroyer USS Doyle as a gunners mate in the Atlantic and Pacific. After the Navy, Bill graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign and did post graduate work at Northwestern. Bill had two careers. One was in marketing/advertising for 29 years including 22 at Foote, Cone, and Belding where he became a vice president, account supervisor. His other career was in residential real estate for 23 years where he became a vice president at Quinlan and Tyson and then Merrill Lynch Reality. Bill was an active sailor with his family at Wilmette Harbor where he served as commodore of Sheridan Shore Yacht Club. Bill was also a member of the Wilmette Rotary Club for many years.

Bill was married to Alice Catherine Kresge on June 19, 1946. They were married for 61 years before her passing in 2007. They had two children, Alison Standley (married to Linwood) and James (deceased in 2012) married to Charlene Moy. Bill had 5 grandchildren. Bill and Alice moved to Westminster Place in 200 where he was involved in many campus activities including writing for the campus magazine and started up the in house television show called The Views. Preceding him in death were his parents and 6 siblings. He is survived by his sister, Jane Goodman and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed!
