Ray Gibson, Tribune Investigative Reporter and Evanston Resident, Dies at 64

Gibson worked at the Tribune for nearly 40 years.

Ray Gibson, an award-winning investigative reporter at the Chicago Tribune, who relished uncovering official misdeeds, died last week at his Evanston home, according to the Tribune. He was a week shy of his 65th birthday.

Gibson worked for the Tribune from 1974 until he retired in 2011. He was a tireless investigative reporter, who wrote his own stories, such as his coverage of Operation Silver Shovel, and also mentored other members of the investigative team, the Tribune obituary states.

His reporting on the trial of former Gov. George Ryan led to the dismissal of two jurors after Gibson discovered that they hadn't disclosed past criminal charges, the article states.
