Ban Firearms Lose Our Business

Business Hostile to Rights of Gun Owners
Business Hostile to Rights of Gun Owners
We are within a month of having Illinois residents that have obtained permits legally carry concealed firearms in Illinois. The law provides that in addition to certain enumerated prohibited locations, businesses that post a sign of proper sign [see below] may prohibit individuals from bringing a concealed firearm into their business. There are some groups advocating the signs....which are a sure way to leave employees and customers unprotected. It is estimated that 10-15% of Illinois residents LEGALLY able to acquire the permits are going to do so. Businesses that choose to post the signs need to be aware that those of us with the permits intend to ACTIVELY BOYCOTT and not patronize any business that posts a sign prohibiting firearms. There are even phone apps available that will track non-firearm friendly businesses. People have the right to make a choice on this and many of us won't spend our money with a business that doesn't respect our constitutional rights.

I plan to make a practice of dining ONLY at establishments that post such a sign.
Tom Fischl February 10, 2014 at 07:22 AM
So if the gun in concealed, how will the establishment know it?
Jordan S. Zoot February 10, 2014 at 07:53 AM
Tom.....the establishment may or may not know it. Having said that at least speaking for myself, if an establishment posts a sign, I am going to follow the law..which means that the firearm doesn't come in. I am not going to put my permit at risk just to enter a store. I don't need to do business with any store that badly to take the chance.

Great places for criminals to victimize. Almost like an invitation. But then those businesses can post a "No Criminals " sign. That should do it.
Ellie Feddersen February 10, 2014 at 10:12 AM
Responding to the original post ,I am glad to know that you are boycotting . This will make me feel safer and more likely to shop and frequent the businesses that have posted the sign. Thank you for boycotting.
Jordan S. Zoot February 10, 2014 at 10:24 AM
Ellie....you are certainly entitled to do as you see fit. Just to clarify, if a business posts a ban sign, as CCL permit holder, I would certainly respect the sign and not bring a firearm into that business and expect other CCL permit holders to do the same, as bringing a firearm into a business with a posted sign violates the law which is something that most of us have no intention of doing. The business owner has the right to make a choice to restrict firearms, and I have the right to not patronize the business. All of the above is logical and respectful of the law and each parties rights. The notion that you are safer in an environment which is free of individuals that are legally carrying concealed firearms is a fallacy. Illinois is the LAST state to pass a CCL law and there is plenty of evidence from other states that the presence of a "good guy" with a firearm has prevented or stopped tragedies in other locations. The assertion that the presence of legal concealed firearms increases risk to others is beyond absurd. Once again, you are entitled to your own views.

Perhaps is Businesses would of had this sign up YEARS AGO. No one would have been shot at any Stores, Restaurants, or any other retail or office. Since we know that people with guns legal or illegal are good law abiding Citizens.
John Chrusciel February 11, 2014 at 11:52 AM
I would NEVER EVER patronize an establishment that displays such a sign simply for my own safety. Here is what posting that no handgun sign tells a criminal: 1. The person exiting this establishment obviously has MONEY (afterall, they were there transacting business) and 2. The person exiting this establishment is definitely NOT ARMED so they are an easy target

I have a 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. I would love to take her to lunch at a firearms friendly restaurant. I would feel so secure, so safe. We need a Guns Welcome decal. Gun on your strong side, one in an ankle holster and a knife on the weak side.
John Chrusciel February 12, 2014 at 02:02 PM
L.P. Actually I prefer to wear my knife on my strong side - it aids in weapon retention by virtue of helping to create space during CQC. By the way, did you know they make body armor for kids now? Grampa might want to invest in some to keep his little darling safe should she be forced to attend ETHS some day.

With all the recent mall, school, restaurant shootings, guns do not have a place in such establishments as it leads to senseless deaths. This town has been historically anti-gun so it is a wise move here to not allow guns. We will go out of our way to patronize and thank these establishments. Other than Jordan and people who live in "unincorporated DuPage County" who get bussed in for votes but clearly don't live here, this threat to business is not a concern. In fact, please stick together in some smoke filled gun happy place. How about Unincorporated DuPage County?
jim February 13, 2014 at 10:27 AM
Karen do you really believe that this sign would have stopped all these shootings?
Jordan S. Zoot February 13, 2014 at 10:38 AM
Karen.....concealed carry IS THE LAW in Illinois...unless a business is specifically enumerated, they have to post a proper sign to ban firearms. There are several hundred people that have filed carry permit applications in Evanston and Skokie and I know of a couple hundred more that have taken the class and will apply. We will be everywhere that we are legally permitted to carry.....but we aren't the problem...that would be thugs with illegal guns. Maybe it will require you or your family to get held up at gunpoint in South Evanston like more than a dozen other people have been in the last month...or perhaps an encounter with a sexual predator that LIVES IN EVANSTON like Barry Marquez to wake you up. Your comment regarding unincorporated DuPage County is MORE THAN IGNORANT....it demonstrates a complete lack of the understanding of reality. Your COMPLETE AND UTTER STUPIDITY IS DEMONSTRATED WHERE YOU MENTION SCHOOLS. A school is a gun free zone by definition....so a sign isn't even required. Its a waste of time to respond to your posts but its worth mentioning...you would be surprised how many of your neighbors do own firearms.
John Chrusciel February 13, 2014 at 11:03 AM
?????? This town has been historically anti-gun so it is a wise move here to not allow guns. ????? Historically women were not allowed to vote. Historically people believed the earth was flat. Historically slavery was an institutional in the south. Historically phrenology was thought to be a legitimate science. So are you saying that because something has been done for a while it is correct. OK...well cannibalism used to be practiced in the South Pacific. It is an historic fact. Do you think cannibalism is acceptable?
Jordan S. Zoot February 13, 2014 at 11:10 AM
John I like your logic...Evanston needs to have a Cannibal Appreciation Day...and while we are at it....lets cancel Columbus Day because he was wrong, deny women the vote and make it legal to own slaves again....I could live with all of the above sooner than accept restrictions on the right to defend myself :). Thank you for pointing out how wrong and absurd Karen's post was.
John Chrusciel February 13, 2014 at 11:42 AM
:) Well i do wish I could blog longer but I am having an old friend for dinner.....hahahahhaha

Quiz for liberals: 1. Who commits crimes, criminals or legally licensed concealed carry citizens? 2. What weapon is the preferred choice of the above: semi-auto pistols, machine guns, mortars, RPG launchers, fighter jets? 3. The estimated number of people saved by owning their own legal gun is: 2million, 200, 20, none, because all guns are scary bad. As you probably have NO idea of the answers, join the NRA and find out. Don't let the media lie to you.
Karen March 24, 2014 at 11:12 AM
Oldfed, in fact, a double murderer and bank robber in Evanston last year was a card carrying FOID gun man!!!!!!! Don't think you live here if you did not know that. NRA troll guy huh? Sadly, guns can equal unnecessary murders far too often.
Jordan S. Zoot March 24, 2014 at 11:31 AM
As long as you realize that you the guy was a needle in a haystack.....in 2012 there were 502 murders in Chicago..and not a single one involved an individual with a FOID card.....so go figure. Further, in all candor, there are plenty of things that the Illinois State Police should be doing to properly run their FOID program which isn't being done See... http://www.auditor.illinois.gov/audit-reports/performance-special-multi/performance-audits/2012%20releases/12-isp-foid-act-mgmt-full.pdf If you would like some pleasure reading.
