DPOE CONGRATULATES MARRIAGE EQUALITY CHAMPIONS AT ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER

 On November 10, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky will present awards to State Representatives Greg Harris and Kelly Cassidy and State Senator Heather Steans for their crucial efforts to pass the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act, which cleared the Illinois House of Representatives today and is expected to be signed by Governor Quinn shortly.   Representative Harris is the primary sponsor of the bill and the main force behind its passage.

The DPOE´s Annual Awards dinner will take place on November 10 at 6pm at the new Skylight Event Space at 1818 Dempster Street.  Attendees will have the chance to congratulate elected officials in person for their successful efforts to make Illinois the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage.  State Senator Daniel Biss and State Representatives Robyn Gabel and Laura Fine, all strong supporters of the marriage equality bill, will be at the event along with many judicial and legislative candidates and community activists. 

Dinner will feature cuisine from local restaurants Koi, Hecky's, Taco Diablo, and Olive Mountain. Tickets start at $125 per person and can be purchased via www.dpoe.org.
