Grandparents Who Raise Their Grandchildren

Across the United States, that number is now more than 7.0 million. That’s 5.4 million minors living with their grandparents. That’s one in ten. 10%. 580,000 of which live below the poverty line.

If your brow is furled and your eyes just narrowed because you, too, feel a little winded by these Census statistics, trust that you’re in the majority. Our collective thanks is long overdue. Today, those of us at Benevolent are pausing in gratitude for all of the grandparents fighting to keep their families intact. We have all benefited from their sacrifice – from celebrities to students, business leaders to the President of the United States. Today, we thank them. Today, we thank Faith.

Six years ago, Faith joined the millions of grandparents who hold legal guardianship of their grandchildren. Amidst her own challenges with health and unemployment, her three grandchildren have always remained at the forefront. “I'm most proud of my family,” she writes, “And the caring support they give me and for what I give them.” After losing her job in the service and retail industry to recover from foot surgery, Faith has asked Benevolent donors to help her purchase school supplies and clothing for her three grandchildren. Her need expires in just a few hours. Help us thank Faith. Go to www.benevolent.net, with just over $200 left to raise, your contribution can make all the difference.
