Pick Your Perfect Pizza Pie

Evanston dishes up plenty of choices.

Looks like Chicago Avenue deserves a new nickname: Pizza Row.

As a pizza aficionado, I’m thrilled to know we’ve got so many pizza places to choose from.

My hands down favorite is Union Pizzeria for its fresh, creative toppings – not to mention the fact that I don’t hate myself after eating the light, wood-fired crust -- but when I feel like changing it up a little, the pizza choices in Evanston are too plentiful to detail in one article.

On Chicago Avenue between Church Greenleaf, you’ll find Dave’s Italian Kitchen, Gio, Giordano’s, Homemade Pizza Company, Union Pizzeria and the relocated Carmen’s (coming soon).

Venture away from Chicago Avenue and you’ll find pizza just about everywhere, from Central Street’s Homemade Pizza Company, to Papa John’s, Lou Malnati’s and Trattoria D.O.C.

We no longer have a Domino's in Evanston. We used to have one on Howard Street near Ridge Avenue, but it's now closed. Does this bother anyone? Wilmette has a Domino's, and they're not even a college town.

Whether you trace pizza's origins to Greece or Italy, I think it's fair to conclude that Evanston's got the corner on options.

Ok, it's in Skokie and not in Evanston but I'm from MI and very, very excited that Jet's pizza is coming to town. I believe today is first day they are open. Anyway, Evanston needs to get a Jet's Pizza !!

Carmen's is coming back? You know that's a good sign. Can't wait. I always felt sad when I walked by the closed Carmen's location on Church Street.

What's the deal with Jet's pizza? Why is it so good?

I heard that Jet's is famous for their square thick crust pizza, suppose to be delicious!

And don't forget Homemade Pizza, one half block from Union. (Though my very have for thin crust Pizza is Pierro's in Wilmette.) As for Giordanno's....FEH!

I could honestly eat one pizza a day from each place in Evanston and be completely satisfied (though probably not very healthy). Homemade, Union, Carmen's, Giordano's, Panino's, Lou Malnat's, who am I forgetting? I consider myself to be someone with high pizza standards, and I think they're all delicious.

Don't forget...Dave's Italian Kitchen! his pan pizza is so delicious, i think our family was one of his 1st customer back in the late 70's when he was on Davis street. Dave is actually still in the ktchen to THIS day making AWESOME food :)

I always forget that Dave's has pizza! I've been meaning to try it, but every time I go I get distracted by their delicious pasta dishes. I think I'll have to order some this week and finally see what the hype is all about -- do you recommend their pan over the thin crust, or are they equally good?
