Want to increase your chances of getting a summer job?
(Evanston, IL) Summer jobs are increasingly difficult to obtain-especially for high school students with little to no job experience! However, in preparation for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program Job Fair on April 19 at ETHS, the Youth Job Center is hosting FREE job-readiness workshops on March 26, April 2 and April 16, 4-6 PM in Beardsley Cafeteria and Student Center. The workshops are open to all students and in addition to learning valuable skills, the workshop will feature games, prizes raffles, music and more!
Each workshop session leading up to the job fair will cover the basics necessary to land a summer job including how to develop an impactful resume, interviewing skills and workplace etiquette. Youth Job Center professionals as well as volunteers from the business community will conduct mock-interviews with students helping to ensure they are prepared for actual interviews which will take place during the Job Fair on April 19.

“It’s become increasingly competitive to land a summer job,” states YJC job trainer, Morris Brent. “The goal of the workshops is to give our kids a leg up when they meet with actual employers during the job fair on April 19.”

“The City of Evanston is pleased to partner with the Youth Job Center and ETHS in this year’s Mayor’s Summer Job Fair,” says City of Evanston Community Services Manager, Kevin Brown. “We all understand the value of getting kids employed during the summer months and this collaborative effort should prove successful for everyone involved-local businesses, the youth as well as the entire community.” The Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program Job Fair will take place on Saturday, April 19 at Evanston Township High School, 9:00-2:00 PM. To be eligible to participate, youth must be at least 14 years of age by mid-June, 2014 and live in zip codes 60201 or 60202.
The Youth Job Center of Evanston prepares youth ages 14-25 for success in the workplace through job-readiness, placement and employment support in partnership with employers.
