114 Ticketed in Evanston 4th of July Trafic Stops

The majority of tickets were for not wearing a seat belt. No one was arrested for DUI.

The following is from a press release from the Evanston Police Department.

The Evanston Police Department issued 114 citations during the recent July 4th Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket crackdown on drunk drivers and seat belt law violators. Of those citations, 61 were issued for not wearing a seatbelt, 22 for driving while using a cell phone, 8 for excessive speed violations, 7 for no proof of insurance, and 11 other minor  traffic violations. Five motorists were physically arrested, 3 for no valid driver’s license, 1 for driving on a suspended driver’s license and 1 motorist was arrested for having an outstanding arrest warrant. No D.U.I. arrests were made during this enforcement campaign which is a positive indicator that the public is making appropriate arrangements for alternative methods of transportion when consuming alcoholic beverages during the holidays.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to get drunk drivers off our roadways and encourage seat belt use, especially during late-night hours.

Extra emphasis was given to the late-night hours when statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest buckle up.

The recent law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticketcampaigns.
