A 15-year-old Chicago boy has been charged with attempted robbery after police said he approached an elderly woman in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue on Monday and demanded her car keys.
Evanston police responded to a report of attempted robbery at 6:30 p.m. on Ridge Avenue, three blocks north of Howard Street. Police said that when they arrived on the scene, an 80-year-old Evanston woman told them that after parking her car and getting out of it, the teen approached her, demanded her car keys and blocked her path to prevent her from walking away.
When the victim called for help, police said, the teen fled the scene on foot. After a description of the robber was broadcast to police units in the area, the teen was arrested a short while later in the 400 block of Asbury Avenue. The woman later positively identified the subject as the offender, authorities said.
Police said the teen also had an outstanding warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The 15-year-old was transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
Police are not releasing the teen's name because he is a juvenile.
