23 Cell Phone Violations In Memorial Day Crackdown

During a crackdown on traffic violations from May 10 to 27, Evanston Police issued 23 tickets to drivers talking on their cell phones and cited 64 people for not wearing a seat belt.

Evanston police issued 23 tickets to drivers talking on their cell phones during a Memorial Day traffic safety crackdown from May 10 to 27, according to a press release from the police department. 

As part of a statewide “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign, police also cited 64 people who were not wearing their seatbelt. Additionally, police arrested one person for driving under the influence and five people for driving without insurance. Evanston Police also made one drug arrest and issued four speeding citations, according to the release. 

Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott reminded motorists that even though the seatbelt enforcement campaign is over, they should continue to buckle up.

“Our officers are out all year long and if drivers or passengers of motor vehicles are caught not wearing a seat belt, day or night, a citation for the safety violation will be issued,” he said in the release. “This saves lives.”
