Blotter: Struck for an iPod; Mart Cart Scooter Theft

Strong-arm Robbery

Three men stole an Apple iPod and an undisclosed amount of cash from another person after striking the victim in the chest in the 1900 block of Simpson Street at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Friday, July 6, police reported.

Shots Fired/Man with a Gun

Police investigate a report that a man had fired a gun near the intersection of Emerson Street and Dodge Avenue shortly before 1 a.m., according to police. Police reportedly checked the area and found nothing.

Simple Battery

A man struck another person on the lip at a residence in the 500 block of Custer Avenue around 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, police reported.

A woman pushed another person in the chest in the parking lot of an apartment building located in the 800 block of Elgin Road at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, according to police.

Residential Burglary

A man stole two digital cameras, a video camera, other camera equipment, a 15-inch plasma television and $300 in cash from a residence in the 1800 block of Greenwood Street on the evening of Saturday, July 7, according to police.

A man attempted to climb through a bedroom window to rob a residence in the 2300 block of Emerson Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, police reported.

Attempted Auto Theft

Someone attempted to steal a vehicle located in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of Dodge Avenue sometime between the evening of Thursday, July 6, and the morning of Saturday, July 7, according to police.

Theft Over $500

Someone stole golfing equipment from a golf bag in the 1800 block of Monroe Street on the morning of Friday, July 6, according to police.

A man stole a Gateway brand laptop computer from a car in the parking lot of a business in the 1900 block of Dempster Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, police reported.

Josue Raziel Salazar-Garcia, 18, was arrested and charged with theft over $500 on Saturday, July 7, near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Greenwood Street, police reported.

Theft Under $500

A man stole a computer hard drive from a business in the 700 block of Custer Avenue sometime between June 1 and June 25, according to police.

Andreaus J. Hardin, 29, was arrested and charged with theft under $500 at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, in the 600 block of Sheridan Square, police reported.

A man stole a locked Trek 7300 mountain bicycle from a bike rack in the 800 block of Hinman Avenue at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, police reported.

Three men stole an unlocked Trek mountain bike and a cable lock from the yard of a residence in the 900 block of Dempster Street at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, according to police.

A man and woman stole a Mart Cart electronic scooter from the parking lot of a business located in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, July 6, police reported.

Burglary from a Motor Vehicle

Someone stole a stereo face panel, promotional DVDs, a guitar foot pedal, a computer hard drive and backpack from a car parked in the alley of the 1200 block of Leonard Place during the late morning or early afternoon of Sunday, July 8, police reported.

Two men stole a cell phone from a car parked near the intersection of Ashland Avenue and Simpson Street on the evening of Saturday, July 7, according to police. The door was reportedly unlocked.

Attempted Burglary

Someone attempted to remove three window panes and screens from a business in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue at approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, July 9, according to police.

Retail Theft

A man stole a pair of sunglasses from a gas station in the 100 block of Ridge Avenue at approximately 11:42 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, police reported.

Criminal Damage to Property

Someone damaged the glass front window of a bank in the 1300 block of Howard Street sometime between the evening of Friday, July 6, and the morning of Saturday, July 7, police reported.

Someone damaged a vending machine in a park in the 1400 block of Sheridan Road at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, according to police.

Someone damaged a fence in the yard of a residence in the 1400 block of Grey Avenue sometime between the evening of Thursday, July 5, and the morning of Friday, July 6, police reported.

Someone damaged the screen door of an apartment located in the 1400 block of Simpson Street on Friday, July 6, according to police.

A woman damaged the window in an apartment building common area in the 400 block of Asbury Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, police reported.

Deceptive Practices

Rudolf Peters, 73, was arrested and charged with deceptive practices at 10:34 a.m. on Friday, July 6, in the 8800 block of Lincolnwood in Skokie, police reported.

Possession of Cannabis

Patrick Edward Jenkins, 44, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis at 3:57 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, in the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue, police reported.

Sean Christopher McClure, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis at 11:22 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, in the 600 block of Howard Street, according to police.

Teddy E. Watt, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis at 6:01 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, near the intersection of Keeney Street and Sheridan Road, police reported.

Possession of Alcohol on the Public Way

Lennox D. Martin, 52, was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol on the public way at 5:19 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, in the 700 block of Hoard Street, according to police.

Open Alcohol in a Vehicle

Nelson Roach, Jr., 48, was arrested and charged with transporting open alcohol in a vehicle at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6, in the 1500 block of Howard Street, according to police.

Maurice Keith Wilkerson, 25, was arrested and charged with consumption of alcohol in a vehicle at 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, in the 1900 block of Dempster Street, police reported.

I was disappointed to find no mention of Saturday's Masonic Mellee. An evening of breaking glass followed by major police activity surely deserved mention. How many arrests? How many injuries? How much damage? Why the news blackout?
