Car Catches Fire on Main Street

Police report that a car went up in fire on Main Street in Evanston Thursday morning.

A car burst into flames on Main Street in Evanston around 9:40 a.m. Thursday morning after the driver ran into a garbage truck.

The truck was pulling out of an alley near Hinman, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott, when the woman drove into it.

"It was an older car, and the engine caught on fire," he said.

No one was injured, although the woman was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, Parrott said.

Police are still investigating the crash and have not yet determined who will receive citations.
