Car Wash Wall Collapses, Portion of Green Bay Road Closed

A portion of the southbound lane of Green Bay Road at Noyes Street will be closed to traffic, due to wall collapsing at car wash on Friday afternoon.

Hand Suds Wash, located at 2212 Green Bay Road, will be closed temporarily while the building’s north wall is being repaired.

At approximately 1:54 p.m. Friday, Evanston Fire companies were dispatched to the location following a call reporting a wall collapse. Arriving companies found that the northern wall of the structure (approximately 125’ in length) was separating from the roof and a portion of it had collapsed.

The business was immediately evacuated along with the car sales dealership on its northern border.

Evanston Building Division personnel and a structural engineer along with fire officials evaluated the damage to the structure. ComEd and Nicor officials evaluated the utilities to ensure the continuance of service.
