Caregiver Charged with Stealing from Elderly Woman

Evanston police say she made unauthorized withdrawals from the 91-year-old's account, totaling $29,000.

After a concerned neighbor tipped them off, Evanston police have charged a Berwyn woman with financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Blanca Fichera, 42, was the live-in caregiver for a 91-year-old Evanston woman, police said. Early this year, they received a report from a neighbor who was concerned about the 91 year old and police initiated an investigation.

They concluded that Fishera had made nine withdrawals from the woman’s bank account by cashing checks last year that totaled more than $29,000, police said.
