Chicago Man Charged With Multiple Felonies After Drug Deal Turned Robbery

Police arrested one person in connection with an armed robbery that resulted in a car crash as the suspects attempted to elude police.

A 32-year-old Chicago man faces multiple felony charges after a drug deal turned into an armed robbery and finally a car crash on Sunday afternoon.

Police say Louis Buford, of the 8400 block of South Hermitage in Chicago, is one of two suspects in the incident, which ended as Buford and the other suspect drove off in a car and crashed into multiple other vehicles as they tried to flee police on Main Street. The other suspect, who was driving the vehicle, is still at large, according to police.

Evanston police responded to a caller who said there was an armed robbery going on around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott. The caller provided a description of the suspected vehicle, which police located near Main Street and Ridge Avenue.

When police tried to stop the car, the driver continued to flee and crashed into several other cars in the 1700 block of Main Street, Parrott said in the release. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Police were able to arrest Buford, and recovered a handgun, crack cocaine and $1,000 in cash, according to Parrott.

Buford is charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and being an armed habitual offender.

The person who originally reported the robbery was uncooperative with police, Parrott said.
