A young child was killed after being struck by a vehicle near John Middleton Elementary School in Skokie about 4:24 p.m. on Monday.
Skokie police were still on scene at 7:30 p.m. investigating the aftermath of the incident that happened near Main Street and St. Louis Avenue, about 20 or 30 yards from John Middleton Elementary School.
The preliminary investigation suggests that a van traveling southbound on St. Louis Avenue attempting to turn eastbound on Main Street struck a sedan traveling eastbound on Main Street, police said. After striking the sedan the driver lost control and struck a juvenile pedestrian on the northeast corner of Main Street and St. Louis Avenue.
The car continued moving until it struck another vehicle near the northwest corner of Main Street and St. Louis Avenue, police said.
One other person was transported to a hospital for treatment of superficial cuts. It is unknown which hospital at this time.
Police are withholding the name of the child pending notification of family.
