Driver Crashes Into CVS in Downtown Evanston

A woman accidentally pushed the accelerator and ran into a parking meter, a bicycle and the side of CVS Pharmacy as she was pulling into a parking space on Sherman Avenue in downtown Evanston, according to police.

A woman accidentally stepped on the gas as she was pulling into a parking space downtown and ran into the side of the CVS Pharmacy at 1711 Sherman Ave. Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

No one was injured, but the side of the building was damaged in the accident, which took place just after 2:30 p.m., police said.

The 74-year-old woman who was driving accelerated over a curb, striking a parking meter and a bicycle locked to the meter before her car hit the building, police said. She was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and damage to city property.

A police accident investigator will recommend that she be re-tested by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Offices for driving privileges, police said.
