Drug Deal Turns Into Armed Robbery, Car Crash on Main

Evanston police took one person into custody but could not track down a second offender after what they believe was a drug deal gone awry on Sunday afternoon.

Evanston police arrested one person and recovered a handgun, crack cocaine and $1,000 in cash in what they believe was a drug deal gone awry Sunday afternoon.

Around 4:45 p.m., Evanston police responded to a caller who said there was an armed robbery going on, according to a press release from Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott. The caller provided a description of the suspected vehicle, which police located near Main Street and Ridge Avenue.

When police tried to stop the car, the driver continued to flee and crashed into several other cars in the 1700 block of Main Street, Parrott said in the release. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash

Police arrested one person and continued to search the area with the help of a police dog, but could not find a second offender who is also believed to have been involved.

Criminal charges are pending against the suspect currently in custody, according to Parrott. The original person who reported the robbery was uncooperative with police, he said.
