Dear ETHS Family:

It is with great sorrow that I must share with you a tragedy in our ETHS family. Kevoyn Cox, a senior at Evanston Township High School, died on Thursday evening, March 28, 2013 as a result of a car accident that occurred near the 2900 block of Howard Street, according to the Chicago Police Department. Some additional ETHS students were injured and hospitalized. The investigation of the accident is ongoing.

Our administrative team communicated with ETHS staff today to help prepare them for the needs of our students as school resumed following spring break. Students were informed about the incident during their morning classes.

We know that some students and staff will have a very difficult time dealing with the loss of a Wildkit. Our Student Services Department personnel will be available throughout the day on Monday, April 1, in room E118 to provide grief counseling to any student who might need it. No appointment is necessary.

As you welcome your children home this evening, try to understand, and accept a variety of emotions and behaviors. A list of resources available to teens in crisis situations was sent to all classrooms this morning. The resources are also listed below.

We are hopeful that our injured students will have a speedy recovery.

Our sympathy and thoughts are with Kevoyn’s family.

Sincerely,

Eric Witherspoon
Superintendent
