Evanston and Chicago Police Departments Exchange Information on Howard Street

The police departments attended a public roll call on Friday in the parking lot of Popeye's Chicken.

Police officers from the Evanston and Chicago police departments, including Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington and Chicago Police 24th District Commander Michael Wick, met for a joint roll call on Friday, June 10 at 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Popeye's Chicken on Howard Street.

The roll call was an opportunity for both departments to exchange information to assist in deploying officers to deal with "hot spot" locations in the area, meaning areas that have recently seen a larger amount of crime than other areas.

"The exchange allows for officers to be well versed on issues that need police attention in both jurisdictions," said a release about the roll call. "Officers frequently assist each other from both Chicago and Evanston when the need arises. There has been an excellent long term working relationship between the Chicago Police Department and the Evanston Police Department with addressing concerns on both sides of the Howard St. corridor separating both cities."

"Outdoor roll calls are conducted at various times and locations that require a higher police presence throughout the warmer months. This allows the public a chance to see how police are briefed on problem issues and given information to address community concerns specific to their neighborhoods," it said.
