Evanston Man Charged After Firing Gun in Fight, Police Say

Police charged a 20-year-old Evanston man with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm after he fired a gun during a fight at Dempster and Fowler Saturday night

An Evanston man faces felony charges after he fired a gun at a man and a woman during a fight Saturday night, according to police. 

Lanord Miles, 20, of the 1300 block of McDaniel Avenue, is charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated battery. He is set to appear in Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie on Jan. 30.

Evanston police responded to a call of shots fired at Dempster Street and Fowler Avenue around 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, where they found a “hostile group of individuals.” Police say that Miles struck a 17-year-old Chicago boy in the head with a gun and fired one shot each at a 21-year-old Evanston man and a 21-year-old Evanston woman during a fight.

Detectives initially took four people into custody for further investigation. They charged Miles after the three victims identified him as the perpetrator, police said.

Officers have not recovered the weapon that Miles used, but did find a shell casing and two bullets at the scene, according to police.
