Evanston Man Charged with First Degree Murder After Party Fight

Ricardo E. Munoz of Evanston has been charged after allegedly getting into a fight at a local party.

Ricardo E. Munoz, 35, of Evanston, has been charged with one count of first degree murder after police said he struck another man at a party, which caused internal bleeding and led to the man's death.

The man who died, 34-year-old Juan L. Sanchez, attended a party with Munoz late Saturday night. and Munoz struck and kicked Sanchez several times.

Sanchez's friends helped him get back to his apartment, and told police that he then fell asleep and was observed conscious and snoring. When they checked on him a second time, he was dead.

Munoz told police that he kicked and punched Sanchez because they were both drunk and Sanchez repeatedly tried to kiss him, according to an email about the incident written by Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington.

Bond has been set for Munoz at $700,000, and a preliminary hearing date has been set for August 11 in Skokie.
