UPDATED: Evanston Man Struck, Killed By Auto While Crossing The Street

A 63-year-old Evanston man was struck by a car in northwest Evanston Saturday evening and died from his injuries the following morning, according to police.

The man was crossing Crawford Street at Grant Avenue at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, when he was hit by a car, police said in a press release. Skokie police and fire responded to the scene, where paramedics transported the man to in Evanston. He arrived in critical condition and died at 8:07 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, according to police.

A representative of the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Steven Vladem, of the 1700 block of Maple Avenue.

Accident reconstructionists from the are still investigating the incident, police said. No one had been cited or charged as of Tuesday morning, according to police spokesperson Perry Polinski.

Crawford Street is two lanes in each direction with a grassy median and a speed limit of 35 miles per hour. There is no crosswalk at Grant Street, a residential street with one lane in each direction.
