Evanston Native Frances Coleman Powell Dies at 102

Powell grew up on Daniel Burnham's Evanston estate, then moved to Kenilworth while also traveling the world extensively.

Sometimes you read an obituary of a stranger and really wish you'd gotten a chance to meet that person.

The Chicago Tribune obituary of Evanston native and Kenilworth resident Frances Coleman Powell, who died last month at 102, is one of those.

According to the article, Powell's father managed architect Daniel Burnham's estate in Evanston, and she grew up there. She graduated from and then in 1931 and during her 60 year marriage traveled extensively around the world, including to Iraq and Afghanistan.
