Evanston Police and Fire Departments to Host 9/11 Memorial

A ceremony at Fireman's Park will honor the victims of the terror attacks of Sept. 11 and the U.S. troops who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Evanston Fire and Police departments will hold a memorial ceremony to recognize the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The service will honor the more than 2,600 people who died in the attacks, the U.S. troops who lost their lives in consequent military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the troops who continue to fight in the war on terrorism.

The ceremony will be the first 9/11 commemoration at the newly renovated Fireman's Park.  Evanston Firefighters Local 742 and community group Friends of Fireman's Park raised more than $100,000 for the project, and held a park rededication ceremony in June to honor the work of the Evanston Fire Department and those who have died in the line of duty.
