A Chicago man is facing weapons charges after Evanston police say he was carrying a loaded handgun when they pulled over the car he was in Tuesday afternoon.
Police received a report of a person with a gun near Church and Dodge around 4:30 p.m., police said. A description of the vehicle he was in was broadcast to police, and the vehicle was stopped in the 400 block of Ridge Road.
Police said they found the passenger, identified as Denzel Olagbegi, 20, of the 1400 block of West Pratt in Chicago, with a loaded .40 caliber, semi-automatic handgun.
Olagbegi is on parole for robbery and aggravated robbery.
The new charges are for armed habitual criminal, possession of a defaced firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, all felonies. He is due in court July 8.
This is the second arrest of a Chicago parolee with a handgun in Evanston in as many days. On Monday night, police arrested a man with what they say was a loaded handgun at the tot-lot in the 600 block of Mulford Street.
This is also the fourth gun arrest in the past 10 days.
