Evanston Police Arrest, Charge Man for Gun Possession in Public Park

Police said they found the gun after the man discarded it in a trash can.

Evanston police said they arrested a 25-year-old Evanston man after he dumped his loaded gun into a trash can.

Police said they approached Tremell Deonte Richardson, of Reba Place, after receiving a call on Aug. 6 at 9:35 p.m. about a small group of people drinking and smoking pot in Reba Park. Officers on the scene smelled marijuana and observed people holding cups, according to a report of the incident, and when they approached the group the people began to walk away.

"At this time police observed one of the male suspects, later identified as Tremell Deonte Richardson, reach to his waistband and remove a silver object, throwing it into a garbage can," the report said. Officers later searched the garbage can and found a loaded 22 cal. revolver.
