Evanston Police Charge Chicago Man With Burglary to Cars

They made the arrest on July 28.

Evanston police have arrested an 18-year-old Chicago man after residents reported seeing him walking down the street checking to see if car doors were locked.

Residents called the police at around 4:15 a.m. on July 28 to report "two subjects in the 1300 block of Washington St., checking the door handles of parked cars in the block and causing several car alarms to sound," according to a police brief on the arrest.

"A quick response by initial officers discovered two subjects in dark clothing running from the area. A foot pursuit was initiated and one of the fleeing subjects was apprehended; the second subject was not located during a subsequent search."

The man caught was Jodi D. Manuel of Chicago. His court date is set for Sept. 1 in Skokie.

Police said they recovered a Tom Tom GPS, $10 in coins, and a Swiss army knife that the man threw as he ran from police. The items were later returned to their owners.
