Evanston Police Release Surveillance Video Hoping to ID Sex Assault Suspect

Police are still looking for the man who sexually assaulted a 19-year-old girl at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 in the 1700 block of Howard Street, in Evanston, according to a press release.

The Evanston Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

The suspect is described as a male black, 30 years old, dark complexion, thin build, wearing a baseball cap and black T-shirt.

In the video (top right corner of the image), the suspect can be seen forcing the victim across the street in between moving traffic and into the gangway of the vacant building at 1717 Howard Street. Moments later, the victim reemerges and runs west bound toward the intersection of Howard Street and Dodge Avenue (California Avenue in Chicago) and the suspect does not reappear.

Any passing motorist or pedestrian that traveled through the area at 6 a.m.  on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 6 and may have seen something that would help identify the suspect is asked to contact the Evanston Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040.
