A family of five was displaced when their house caught fire at 1830 Laurel Ave. Thursday evening, according to the Evanston Fire Department.

No one was injured in the blaze, which appeared to begin on the first floor of the home, according to Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl.

Firefighters arrived at the single-family home around 7:40 p.m., where they fought heavy smoke and fire in the living room and kitchen on the first floor, according to Hohl. They were able to extinguish the flames before they spread to the upstairs bedrooms, he said.
