Family: Brothers 'Did Not Deserve Anything Like This'

A family member of Azim and Mobeen Hakeem--brothers who were found shot dead inside their downtown Evanston tobacco shop Tuesday--described them as "gentle, humble men who did not deserve anything like this."

"Both were great brothers, sons, nephews and cousins," read a statement taped to the door of an Evanston home that is listed online as the Hakeems' address. The statement was signed "Farheen Hakeem, daughter, sister and friend."

Police found Azim and Mobeen dead in the basement of Evanston Pipe & Tobacco Shop at 923 Davis St. at 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott. Parrott said "there were no indications that a robbery had taken place," and that police were still investigating the incident. 

Parrott said police were not releasing the address of the brothers, who lived in Evanston, out of respect for family members, who wished to be left alone Wednesday.
